MAYOWA LYNETTE (they/she)
Mayowa is a stand-up comedian and organizer dedicated to creating spaces that uplift and celebrate marginalized voices. In 2016, she organized ISSA Comedy Show, Berlin's largest comedy showcase spotlighting queer performers of color. In 2019, she wrote and performed her 1 hour stand-up special, Kween Kong, which is now featured on the Kweli TV streaming platform. She had the privilege of opening for the famous comedian Hari Kondabolu, and Lil Rel called her special Kween Kong "brilliant funny & honest". Beyond stand-up, they've hosted and performed comedy for major brands like Nike and festivals such as Bread and Butter in Berlin.
Her work isn’t just about comedy—it’s about driving change. She hosted Europe’s largest feminist gala and had the honor of interviewing Kimberlé Crenshaw on intersectional feminism. She's also the founder and organizer of Warmer Shades, a queer collective dedicated to spotlighting dark-skinned performers. Currently, she host Black Queer & Funny, a bi-weekly stand-up open mic in Atlanta that amplifies the voices of Black LGBTQ+ comedians.
In addition to my comedy and organizing work, she's also a filmmaker. she directed Acting White (2015), a film that explores racial performance and identity. Her work is driven by a passion for using creativity to foster visibility, connection, and joy for marginalized communities.
